New Year’s Resolutions
I have mixed feelings on new year’s resolutions. They can be a great way to start a new year. New year, new mantra—a fresh start, a feeling of renewal. After all, we don’t have that many years, so a new year is a rare opportunity in the scheme of our short lives. But by no means is the new year the only opportunity to create space for newness and that, I find, is the problem with new year’s resolutions. Needing a fresh calendar to provide a fresh perspective takes away from our ability to recreate, renew, rejuvenate, refresh, and revive everyday… And that is a very important life skill. (At least I think so.)
That being said, I am really into my 2011 resolution of not taking myself so seriously. I don’t know how that will take shape quite yet, but I don’t have to know since I am not taking myself so seriously this year!
Happy new year to all! Bring it on 2011.
